Manipulation Dressed as Wisdom
A letter to the one who keeps tweaking outcomes instead of trusting the God who sees all.
Dear Becoming One,
Have you ever prayed and then quietly started trying to "make it happen" yourself?
You still love God. You still say you trust Him. You still quote His promises. But somewhere between the prayer and the waiting, you begin pushing pieces. Tweaking the plan. Forcing the outcome. Making quiet moves that sound like "wisdom" but are really just fear dressed as strategy.
Let's talk about it.
There's a part of every human heart that wants control. We want to know how it will happen, when it will happen, who God will use, what doors will open. And if He seems to be taking too long, we begin writing the next chapter ourselves.
We bend situations. We nudge conversations. We say what sounds good instead of what is true. We present polished versions of ourselves hoping they'll receive what authenticity couldn't. We knock on doors God never asked us to approach.
Then we call it "using wisdom." Or "having faith with action."
But sometimes it's neither. Sometimes it's manipulation. And here's what makes manipulation dangerous: it rarely sounds like manipulation. It sounds responsible. Productive. Strategic. Urgent. It feels like we're being wise.
But beneath it all is one quiet confession we won't admit even to ourselves: "God, I'm not sure You'll come through unless I help You."
That isn't faith. That's fear.
Faith doesn't manipulate. Faith waits. Faith obeys. Faith trusts. Faith says, "If God doesn't open this door, then I don't want it."
Because the doors God opens never require you to compromise the person He's calling you to become. Anything you force outside His timing may look like progress, but eventually it becomes pressure—a weight you were never meant to carry. Because grace never empowers what striving created.
Maybe today you've been trying to secure a "yes." Maybe you've been positioning yourself out of fear instead of instruction. Maybe you've been trying to be noticed instead of simply being faithful. Maybe you've been exhausting yourself trying to hold together what God has already promised to hold.
Dear one, come back to rest. Not because the promise no longer matters, but because God is still faithful to it. He does not need your manipulation to fulfill His word. He asks for your obedience. Your surrender. Your trust. Your posture.
So today, before you ask Him for another sign, ask Him for a surrendered heart. Pray this with me:
"Father, forgive me for trying to accomplish by control what You promised by grace. I release the outcome back into Your hands. Teach me to wait without fear, to obey without striving, and to trust without manipulating. If You don't open the door, I don't want it. And if You do, give me the courage to walk through it Your way. Amen."
The door God opens for you will not require performance. It will not require pretending. It will not require compromising your convictions. It will come with His peace.
So loosen your grip. Let go of the striving. And let God write the next scene, His way
With you in the waiting,
Your sister who's learning too.
