Dearest gentle reader,

I once was the person who wouldn’t be able to sleep due to one anxiety or fear of what might happen while I slept.

I’d been in several situations whereby it was while I slept that I was robbed of one thing or the other, and I began to see that even my parents couldn’t protect me while I slept.

It always felt like I had not finished the trouble of today. Why should I shut my eyes only to wake up and see the trouble of the next day?

So sleep would elude me. This, in turn, birthed nightmares, even while I slept eventually.

But alas, the Lord found me.

He said He would keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him. Ah, I see! I have to stay my mind on the Lord for me to have perfect peace.

Then He said He gives His beloved sweet sleep. Am I His beloved? Yes, I am! Therefore, I have sweet sleep.

Then I’d see David, who, on several occasions, was in a position that would cost him his sleep. His king chased him, his son chased him, and he was constantly in one war or the other. Yet, when you see him in Psalms, he’d express himself plainly and fully before the Lord, and by the time he was done, you’d see, “I lay down and sleep, for the Lord sustains me.” The Lord would keep him safe. He had immense trust in the Lord.

So yes, to sleep and enjoy your sleep, you have to trust in the God of rest, who gives rest to His beloved.

So hand over whatever is bothering you to God, and sleep. Watch Him take it over and resolve it, even beyond your imagination.

Rest, beloved. Rest.

Even God rested. 😊

Till I write again,

Oluwatosin 🌹
